The furisobe (translates as 'swinging sleeves') is a formal type of kimono worn by young unmarried women, usually worn for a special occasion such as the tea ceremony or weddings.   They are generally of smooth, brightly coloured silk and the sleeves are attached to the body of the kimono only for a short distance, the inner edge is open, allowing the lining to show on the inner edge.
