A good, large, 19th century 'blonde' loggerhead turtle shell. In good, solid condition overall, with minor marks and wear, one split where the sectons have parted company,
Turtles were caught by 18th and 19th century sailors for their meat. The leftover shells were then often worked by the sailors, removing the patterned outer layers with the bone carapace below polished to a smooth white finish.
