Vintage Kansai Yamamoto Pierrot Biker Jacket

Vintage Kansai Yamamoto Pierrot Biker Jacket

Code: 10290

SOLD
A rare Kansai Yamamoto biker jacket dating from the early 1980's, in a giraffe print with the back printed with a portrait of a pierrot.  Typical bilker style with zip front and sleeves and poppers.

No size label but it's fairly generous and would fit a range of sizes.  There is also no fabric label but feels like a soft cotton/silk mix.

In excellent condition, slight grubbiness on the inside of the neck around the label but otherwise very good.

Kansai Yamamoto, born 1944,  is one of the leading contemporary Japanese fashion designers, particularly during in the 1970's and 1980's. After initially studying civil engineering and English at Nippon University he then studied at  Bunka Fashion College and went on to open his own company, Yamamoto Kansai Company, Ltd., Tokyo. His first collection debuted in London in 1971 and in the USA at Hess's Department Store in Pennsylvania which was renowned for many avant-garde collections. His 1975 debut in Paris was followed by the opening of his Kansai Boutique in 1977.

He is perhaps best known for designing avant-garde costumes for David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust Tour and renewing the interest in the Kimono and classical Japanese fashion.
