An Antique French Linen Dowry Sheet, circa 1900, beautifully monogrammed in red cross stitch with the initials B.H. The sheet is an unbleached creamy white colour and is thick and tactile with lots of slubs in the weave and judging by the feel most likely a homespun mix of linen and hemp or nettle. It has hand sewn seams worked with tiny stitches which are barely visible and is made from two sections of fabric which are hand seamed down the centre with tiny stitches; typical of sheets produced before looms were wide enough to make sheeting in one singe piece.
Would make a lovely curtain or is soft enough for use as a sheet.
