A wonderfully tactile Antique French Metis Linen Sheet dating from circa 1900. Lovely creamy white with some slubs in the weave and soft to the touch.
Metis is the traditional French sheeting fabric and is a mix of linen and other yarns such as cotton, hemp or less commonly nettle. Given the soft texture of this particular sheet I think it is very likely a linen/nettle mix .
In very good condition, nice and thick throughout, some tiny grey spots and two small rust spots from being stored in an armoire for decades. It was very grubby when I acquired the sheet, I have washed it once and many of the marks have disappeared, the remainder would very likely come out with further laundering.
These sheets can be used in many ways, they make lovely throws, tablecloths, curtains and are often used for upholstery and cushions
