An Antique French Metis/Linen Monogrammed Sheet, hand embroidered with the initials L.L. A very large, thick and heavy sheet dating from circa 1900. Made from two sections of metis hand sewn with a central seam. The hand looms from this period were very narrow and it was not until the mid 1920's that wider looms were introduced which enabled sheets to be produced from one single piece of textile.
Nice, slightly rustic metis, creamy white in colour with some slubs running through it and lots of character, heavy weight fabric which makes it suitable for use as a bed cover, curtains, blinds, cushions etc.
Metis is the traditional French sheeting fabric and is a mix of linen and other yarns such as cotton, hemp or less commonly nettle. Given the weight and texture I believe this sheet to be a linen/hemp mix.
204cm wide x 309cm long. The monogram measures 11cm high x 14.5cm wide and is situated 75cm from the top edge of the sheet.
