Metis is a mix of linen and cotton and is the traditional French fabric used for bed linens
Being a blend it is much thicker and heavier than cotton but harder wearing than linen and will last a lifetime
This sheet dates from late 19th Century or very early 20th Century and it made from two lengths joined vertically down the centre and joined with tiny stitches
All antique sheets were made in this way as the pre 1920's looms were not wide enough to weave a sheet in one piece hence they always have a central join
These sheets made wonderful curtains, tablecloths and are often used as upholstery fabric or for other soft furnishing projects
In good condition, nice and thick with some minor old yellow marks which will probably fade with further come laundering
