A wonderful example of an antique 19th Century French hemp sheet in a lovely biscuit colour, finely woven and joined vertically down the centre with tiny stitches and embroidered in red cross stitch with the initials MM (or WW if turned upside down!)
19th Century sheets were always made in two sections due to the looms being too narrow to weave a sheet in one piece hence they have a central join.
In excellent condition, very heavy, nice and thick throughout - it doesn't appear to have seen very much use.
These sheets can be used in many ways, they make lovely throws, tablecloths, curtains and are often used for upholstery and cushions. This example is of long length and a lovely tactile fabric with a nice drape
