Unusual Victorian Burr Oak Chiffonier

SOLD

Code: 10316

A very good quality Victorian chiffonier, circa 1860, of small proportions and unusual configuration.  The oak structure with burr oak fielded panels with moulded edges flanked by flat Corinthian topped columns, with gallery back and an unusual configuration of six small drawers flanked by cupboard doors with brass locks stamped 'NETTLEFORDS LEVER' and 'AUBIN MAKER', the sides similarly panelled and raised on a plinth base.

90cm high (117cm high to top of back) x 100cm wide x 37.5cm deep.

Sometimes described as 'The Prince of Locksmiths' Charles St Aubin patented a number of lock designs in his lifetime, including a lever mechanism which had a profound and lasting influence on other lock makers of the 19th Century.  A history of this work and influence can be read on the following link http://www.historyoflocks.com/lib005.html
