Unusual Antique Slipware Dish & Cover
H: 36cm (14.2")W: 26cm (10.2")D: 26cm (10.2")
An Antique 19th Century Slipware dish and cover of unusual form, possibly a dough prover. The design is similar to that of a stilton dish but with a very deep base and a pierced lid which possibly indicates it's use as being for proving dough. The colours are typical of those used at Barnstaple in Devon, with thick slipware decoration of foliate panels, the inside of the bottom section is decorated with a large flowerhead and is raised on a deep foot-rim.
The dish has seen a lot of use with chipping around the outside lip of the base and the knop handle has a lead repair, adding to it's charm.
