A Maple & Co walnut hall chair the design attributed to H.W. Batley, the back carved with Aesthetic Movement panels of flowers, stamped to on the back 'Maple & Co'.
Henry William Batley was an interesting designer of the Aesthetic Movement. He was an original etcher and engraver and designer of Aesthetic furniture, wallpapers, textiles and carpets. He designed the interiors for Doulton s terra-cotta house which was exhibited at the Paris Exhibition of 1878 and was awarded the Legion d Honneur.
Condition: good colour, later metal plate strengtheners to the rear, one chipped lobe to the finial.
