A good quality Victorian satin birch chest of drawers by Druce & Co, circa 1880, the two short and three graduated long drawers with cock beaded edges, brass escutcheons and bun handles, the bottom drawer being extra deep as it incorporates the bottom plinth. The chest has rounded quarter column front corners and flat bun feet.  The locks stamped 'VR Patent Lock' and with Druce & Co paper label.

In good overall condition, locks and knobs are all original. Some minor veneer chipping to the bottom plinth, scuff to the bottom drawer, one replacement section of moulding to the top edge on the right hand side.

NB: The Druce & Co. were well known as suppliers of good quality furniture in the Victorian and Edwardian period. Established in Baker Street, London in the mid-19th century, on the site of the previously named ‘Baker Street Bazaar’. Thomas Charles Druce collated and displayed fine furniture from skilled makers throughout the globe, with his son, Herbert taking over the running of the business in 1864.

With a keen eye for quality the Druce & Co company traded successfully throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras, the Great War, and into WW2 when, at the end of 1940, German bombers destroyed most of the building and stock.
