A pair of Victorian Staffordshire pottery donkeys, circa 1880, modelled with panniers on their backs carrying basket of fruit, standing on naturalistic oval bases with applied shredded clay decoration. Modelled in the round with three legs of each donkey moulded free. Vent hole to the base and reverse.

Similar pair illustrated figure 2929/2930, page 245, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding.

The colours are nice and bright, some professional restoration to the ears.
